ALOR SETAR, 11 February 2025 – Albukhary International University (AIU) made history by hosting the inaugural Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit, marking a groundbreaking collaboration between AIU and the world’s second-largest intergovernmental body.

Held on 8 – 9 February 2025 at the Senate Room, the summit brought together students for two days of engaging discussions, thought-provoking debates, and impactful resolutions on critical global issues.

A key highlight of the summit was the virtual participation of Ms. Susan Mohammed, Family and Women Officer from the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, who provided valuable insights on gender empowerment within the OIC framework.

Participating students among first-year students took the stage, delivering insightful presentations on the OIC’s history, charter, key institutions, and notable achievements. Meanwhile, second- and third-year students conducted in-depth analyses of the 57 OIC member states, exploring their roles and contributions within the organization.

The summit focused on two pressing resolutions: (1) Strategic Approaches to Preventing Genocide in Gaza and (2) Achieving Gender Balance & Empowering Women within the OIC Framework. Through these discussions, students demonstrated exceptional research, diplomacy, and critical thinking skills, engaging in meaningful conversations on issues that directly impact the OIC member states.

The event was officially opened by the Acting Dean of the School of Business and Social Sciences (SBSS), Dr. Noorul Hafidzah binti Zawawi, who later delivered insightful closing remarks, commending students for their outstanding contributions and intellectual rigor.

The summit received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with students hailing it as a transformative and eye-opening experience that deepened their understanding of international relations and policy-making.

This landmark event cements AIU’s role as a centre for academic excellence, leadership development, and global engagement, setting a new benchmark for future student-led summits.

The summit was first envisioned by Associate Professor Dr. Mikio Oishi, meticulously organized and structured by Dr. Muath Khalil Amayreh in collaboration with the OIC. The Political Science Club (Politihink) played a significant role in bringing the event to life, ensuring its successful execution.
