The School of Education and Human Sciences (SEHS) at Albukhary International University recently held its Annual Away Day 2025 at Cinta Sayang Resort, Kedah. The three-day programme, from 14 to 16 August 2025, brought together the Dean, programme heads, academic staff, and administrative members for an intensive curriculum review and strategic planning retreat.
The event was spearheaded by Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek Bin Abdul Karim, Dean of SEHS, and involved academic representatives from the Bachelor in Early Childhood Education (BECE), Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEE), and Bachelor of Media and Communication (BMC) programmes. The primary focus of this year’s Away Day was to ensure that SEHS programmes remain aligned with the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF) and meet the standards set by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
Day One – Opening and Strategic Briefings
The Away Day commenced on 14 August with an opening address from Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek, who highlighted the importance of continuous academic enhancement to meet evolving educational needs. This was followed by a session led by Tun Nazhatul Syima, SEHS Executive, who outlined the programme flow and objectives.
Ms. Nur Faridatul Jamalia Radzali then presented a detailed briefing on MQA requirements and strategic directions for programme improvement. The evening was dedicated to comprehensive reviews of the BECE, BEE, and BMC programmes. A highlight of the day was the introduction of two proposed programmes:
✔️ Bachelor in Instructional Technology (Honours) – presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tengku Shahrom Bin Tengku Shahdan
✔️ Bachelor in English with Business Management (Honours) – presented by Ms. Rubini Radza
Day Two – Compliance and Curriculum Alignment
The second day featured a special session with Prof. Dr. Nurahimah binti Mohd. Yusoff, an MQA expert, who provided valuable insights into compliance regulations and standards. The engaging session concluded with a Q&A dialogue, allowing participants to clarify specific compliance concerns.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to Programme Curriculum Constructive Alignment (PCCA), ensuring that course outcomes are effectively mapped to graduate attributes. The evening session continued with in-depth curriculum reviews, addressing both strengths and areas requiring refinement.
Day Three – Consolidation and Action Planning
On the final day, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bakare Kazeem Kayode delivered a presentation addressing feedback on the Master of Education programme, particularly in relation to MQA evaluations. The remainder of the day was devoted to final reviews, consolidation of feedback, action plans, and timelines for implementation.
The retreat concluded with closing remarks by Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek, who emphasized the importance of maintaining academic quality, adhering to national accreditation requirements, and ensuring timely follow-up actions. He commended the dedication of the participants and reaffirmed SEHS’s commitment to delivering programmes that produce competent and socially responsible graduates.
Event Facilities and Coordination
To ensure a smooth and productive retreat, participants were provided with transportation, accommodation, and catered meals throughout their stay at Cinta Sayang Resort. Event coordination, including logistics, emceeing, and transport arrangements, was overseen by Mr. Mohamad Nor Hisyam Bin Musa, Head of the BMC programme.
The SEHS Away Day 2025 not only reinforced the school’s commitment to academic excellence but also set the direction for new programme development and enhanced compliance with national educational standards.
