ALOR SETAR, 25 August 2025 – Albukhary International University (AIU) continues to uphold its tradition of community engagement by partnering with KEDA Bendang Perang through a research grant led by Prof. Dr. Salfarina Gapor. The initiative focused on promoting sustainable lifestyles in rural communities, aligning with AIU’s mission of advancing social responsibility, environmental care, and community development.
Hands-On Learning for a Greener Future
More than 40 villagers gathered at the community hall from 8.00 a.m. onwards, participating in a range of interactive and practical activities. They were guided through:
- Household waste composting methods,
- Effective recycling practices, and
- Income-generating techniques through black soldier fly larva cultivation.
Live demonstrations and experiential learning provided villagers with skills they can apply immediately in daily life. The enthusiastic participation reflected a growing interest in adopting sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
AIU Students Driving Sustainability
Adding further impact, AIU students from the Bachelor of Social Development and Bachelor of Economics programmes, under the School of Business and Social Sciences (SBSS), conducted a knowledge-sharing session. Their presentation on the 3 Zero Projects introduced innovative solutions for:
- Waste reduction,
- Sustainability, and
- Economic empowerment.
This student-led initiative demonstrated AIU’s commitment to nurturing future leaders who are socially conscious and dedicated to community transformation.
Strengthening Academic–Community Partnerships
The programme was supported by AIU lecturers and co-researchers of the grant, Mr. Aiman Muqri Ahmad Shukri and Ms. Nur Jazanadia Jamaludin, who guided the students and facilitated knowledge transfer. Their involvement reinforced the university–community partnership, ensuring the initiative’s long-term relevance and impact.
A Lasting Commitment to Sustainable Development
Through this collaborative effort, AIU reaffirmed its commitment to:
- Promoting sustainable practices,
- Empowering rural communities, and
- Cultivating responsible leaders dedicated to social and environmental development.
This initiative reflects AIU’s broader vision of integrating education, research, and community service to inspire meaningful change.
