AIU Students Strengthen Community Bonds Through “Apa Khabar Orang Kampung (AKOK) 3.0

Share

Albukhary International University (AIU), through its Centre for Student Affairs and Alumni (CSAA), once again brought hearts and hands together through its flagship community outreach programme — “Apa Khabar Orang Kampung (AKOK) 3.0” — held at Kampung Matang Kenanga, Jerlun, Kedah.

The initiative, now in its third successful cycle, continues to embody AIU’s enduring mission of cultivating socially responsible, compassionate, and globally minded citizens through authentic engagement with local communities.

🤝 Collaboration for Impact

The three-day programme was organised in collaboration with Universiti Malaya (UM), the Parliament of Jerlun, and the Pesta Sukan Bendang Antarabangsa. This powerful partnership strengthened the bridge between academic institutions and the community — uniting students, educators, and villagers under one shared purpose: to serve, learn, and connect.

AKOK 3.0 highlighted AIU’s unique approach to learning beyond classrooms — where education is not just about books, but about building character, empathy, and cultural awareness.

🌿 Community, Culture, and Connection

Throughout the event, students immersed themselves in gotong-royong (community clean-up) activities, educational workshops, and a mental health awareness session, where stress balls were distributed to encourage emotional well-being and self-care.

These interactions not only provided a platform for students to apply leadership and teamwork skills but also allowed them to experience the warmth, humility, and wisdom of village life — lessons that no textbook can teach.

The true highlight came during the Pesta Sukan Bendang, a celebration of rural sports and camaraderie featuring traditional competitions such as:

  • 🌾 Bendang Soccer
  • 💪 Tug of War
  • 🏐 Handball
  • 🌴 Batang Pinang Pillow Fight
  • 🥥 Coconut Bowling

AIU students proudly represented the university and clinched several wins, showcasing their energy, unity, and sportsmanship.

🎓 Support from Leadership

The closing ceremony was graced by Professor Dr. Hj. Mohamad Abdullah bin Hemdi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of AIU, who commended the students for their spirit of volunteerism and meaningful contribution to community development.

In his remarks, he emphasized that programmes like AKOK truly reflect AIU’s 5A Core Values and The 8-Hour Rule, reinforcing the university’s commitment to education that uplifts both individuals and society.

💛 A Living Example of AIU’s Vision

As AKOK 3.0 came to a close, heartfelt smiles, shared stories, and new friendships marked the true success of the initiative. For many students, it was more than a community project — it was an eye-opening journey of empathy and understanding.

The CSAA team reaffirmed its dedication to continuing such programmes, nurturing AIU students who embody compassion, unity, and cross-cultural harmony.

“AKOK reminds us that every act of kindness creates a ripple that reaches beyond the village — it shapes the kind of world we all want to live in.”

🌍 Beyond the Campus Walls

AKOK 3.0 is a testament to AIU’s holistic education philosophy — one that empowers students to engage meaningfully with society while developing leadership, integrity, and emotional intelligence.

Through outreach initiatives like these, AIU continues to inspire minds, transform lives, and strengthen communities, staying true to its vision of Education for All and Humanity First.
