the Bangladeshi Students Community AIU (BASCA) organized a remarkable event at the AIU Auditorium to commemorate the first anniversary of the July Revolution 2024. The program, titled “Echoes of July Revolution: Debate and Cultural Night”, highlighted the power of youth leadership, cultural expression, and academic excellence.

International Debate Competition – Voices of the Youth

The evening began with the grand finale of an international debate competition held in the Asian Parliamentary format.
The motion for the final round was:
“This House Believes That the Youth Leadership of the July Revolution 2024 in Bangladesh Demonstrates the Need for Greater Youth Representation in National Politics.”

  • Champion: Team For the Sake of Argument
  • Runner-up: Tongue & Dagger

The debate underscored the importance of youth-driven perspectives in shaping inclusive, forward-thinking policies for national and global progress.

Cultural Showcase and Reflections

Following the debate, the audience was treated to a rich cultural program that honored the memory and impact of the July Revolution. Highlights included:

  • Traditional Bangladeshi songs performed by students.
  • A documentary screening capturing the spirit of last year’s revolution.
  • A dramatic performance inspired by the events of 2024, portraying resilience, unity, and the call for reform.

This segment beautifully demonstrated how cultural expression can preserve history, inspire dialogue, and foster solidarity.

Recognizing Excellence and Achievements

The night also featured a prize-giving ceremony, where cash awards, hampers, and trophies were presented to the winning debate teams and semifinalists. These recognitions emphasized the value of intellectual engagement, teamwork, and student initiative.

Dignitaries and Distinguished Guests

The program was graced by His Excellency Md Shameem Ahsan, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia, who attended as the Chief Guest. Representatives from the High Commission also joined the occasion, further strengthening ties between the Bangladeshi community and the AIU family.

The presence of university leadership, faculty, and students highlighted AIU’s multicultural environment and the university’s commitment to fostering dialogue, diversity, and global citizenship.

A Reflection of AIU’s Global Spirit

Events such as this one remind us that education extends beyond classrooms. By blending debate, culture, and commemoration, BASCA not only honored their national heritage but also showcased the vibrant multiculturalism at Albukhary International University (AIU).

Such initiatives empower students to embrace leadership, celebrate cultural roots, and engage meaningfully in international conversations.
