ALOR SETAR, 22 August 2025 – The School of Computing and Informatics (SCI) at Albukhary International University (AIU) proudly hosted its inaugural SCI Code Quest 2025 on 22 July 2025, a high-intensity coding competition that challenged students to push the limits of problem-solving, logical thinking, and programming expertise.
Fostering a Culture of Innovation and Excellence
The SCI Code Quest was designed to strengthen computational thinking and encourage students to engage in real-world coding challenges under strict time constraints. By removing external aids—including AI tools, internet resources, and collaborative platforms—the competition emphasized independent analytical thinking, precision, and technical mastery.
Diverse Participation Across AIU Schools
A total of 18 teams took part in the competition, representing the:
- School of Computing and Informatics (SCI)
- School of Business and Social Sciences (SBSS)
- Language Centre (LC)
Students competed in a two-hour algorithmic challenge hosted on the HackerRank platform. Each team faced four demanding coding problems, requiring innovative solutions in Java, C, and Python—languages that continue to dominate global software development.
Inspiring Leadership and Support
The event commenced with a Qur’an recitation, followed by opening remarks from:
- Prof. Dr. Hj. Mohamad Abdullah Bin Hemdi, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), who emphasized AIU’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Basheer Riskhan, Dean of SCI, who encouraged participants to embrace challenges and view coding as a pathway to solving global issues.
The atmosphere reflected AIU’s holistic educational approach, combining technical skill development with moral values and teamwork.
Celebrating Achievement and Teamwork
The closing ceremony featured reflections from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Frederik Holst of SBSS, who highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, followed by a prize-giving session.
The competition’s top five teams were recognized for their remarkable performance in terms of both accuracy and speed. Winners received cash prizes and medals, underscoring AIU’s dedication to rewarding academic excellence and nurturing student talent.
Concluding remarks by Dr. Mozaherul Hoque Abul Hasanat, SCI Deputy Dean, praised the participants’ resilience and determination, calling the event a milestone in cultivating future-ready graduates.
Building a Tradition of Competitive Coding
The success of SCI Code Quest 2025 sets the stage for what promises to be an annual tradition at AIU. More than just a competition, the event fosters:
- Analytical and logical reasoning skills
- Team-based collaboration and leadership
- Healthy competition across disciplines
- Innovation-driven learning experiences
This initiative aligns with AIU’s mission of nurturing graduates who are not only academically competent but also socially responsible, globally aware, and technologically skilled.
