The Pitch for the Planet competition, held at the Penang Skills Development Centre and organized by the Penang Math Platform, brought together some of Malaysia’s most promising young changemakers to present bold, innovative ideas for a greener, more sustainable future.
The event was supervised by consultants from Albukhary International University (AIU) — Mdm Alia Hanim Zainal Abidin and Mr. Mohd Fadli Zakaria, alongside Dr. Amrah Abdul Majid from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) — who played key roles in mentoring participants, guiding them through the development of their environmental and sustainability-focused projects.
🌱 Empowering Youth Through Innovation and Education
Pitch for the Planet served as a vibrant platform for young students to combine creativity, critical thinking, and scientific understanding in addressing real-world environmental challenges. The event aligned closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), inspiring participants to propose actionable solutions that balance environmental preservation with social and economic progress.
Two lecturers from AIU’s Centre for Foundation and General Studies (CFGS), Mr. Abu Dzarr Muhammad Rus and Mdm. Irdayu Ibrahim, were invited to serve as judges for the competition. Their insightful evaluations and professional feedback played a key role in helping participants refine their ideas and presentation skills.

🌏 AIU’s Role in Shaping Future Changemakers
The competition also showcased the collaborative and mentorship spirit of AIU students and staff. Dedicated student facilitators from AIU — Nur Umairah Shuhadah, Nurul Aina Azhar, Thahida Mohd Noor, and Youne Wadi Oo — assisted participants throughout the day, while Hnin Htet Htet Zaw moderated the session with confidence and professionalism.
Through their active involvement, AIU reinforced its commitment to youth empowerment, sustainability education, and experiential learning, core pillars that reflect the university’s 3ZERO philosophy — Zero Poverty, Zero Unemployment, and Zero Net Carbon.
💡 Inspiring the Next Generation of Environmental Leaders
The Pitch for the Planet competition not only celebrated innovation but also encouraged students to think beyond the classroom — to take ownership of the world’s environmental challenges and transform their ideas into impactful solutions. From renewable energy proposals to creative waste management systems and awareness campaigns, each presentation demonstrated passion, purpose, and potential.
This initiative underscores AIU’s ongoing mission to nurture ethical, capable, and socially responsible leaders who will contribute meaningfully to the global sustainability agenda.
