In a continued effort to strengthen values-based education and community engagement, Madam Noor Jannah Afi, Lecturer from the School of Business and Social Sciences (SBSS), Albukhary International University (AIU), conducted a comprehensive teacher training session at Addien Integrated Islamic School, Alor Setar, on October 11, 2025.

The workshop, themed “The Role of Murabbi: Upholding Teachers’ Etiquette in Islamic Education,” brought together a group of passionate educators eager to deepen their understanding of teaching beyond academic delivery — focusing instead on the spiritual, ethical, and moral dimensions of education in the Islamic context.

Fostering the Murabbi Spirit in Education

The training emphasized that a murabbi — or educator — is not merely an instructor of knowledge but a mentor, nurturer, and guide who shapes both the intellect and the character of learners. Madam Noor Jannah highlighted the significance of adab (etiquette) and akhlaq (good character) in teaching, urging educators to embody Islamic values in their daily interactions with students.

“A teacher’s role extends far beyond the classroom,” said Madam Noor Jannah. “Every action, word, and attitude of a teacher influences the moral and emotional development of students. To be a murabbi is to teach with sincerity, compassion, and responsibility — not only to educate but to guide hearts.”

Throughout the session, participants reflected on Prophetic principles of education, the importance of sincerity (ikhlas), and the trust (amanah) that comes with the responsibility of teaching. The training also included interactive discussions and real-life case studies to help educators apply these principles effectively in their teaching environments.

Strengthening Professional and Spiritual Growth

Participants expressed their appreciation for the insightful and spiritually enriching session. Many shared that the workshop not only enhanced their professional understanding but also reignited their personal commitment to teaching as an act of worship and service.

One teacher remarked, “This training reminded us that being a teacher is not just a profession but a calling — a trust from Allah to nurture young souls with patience and wisdom.”

The interactive nature of the session encouraged teachers to share challenges and experiences, fostering a collaborative environment for self-reflection and collective growth.

AIU’s Commitment to Educational and Moral Excellence

Through this initiative, Albukhary International University reaffirms its dedication to community engagement, Islamic education, and educator empowerment. The university continues to collaborate with schools, organizations, and educational institutions to promote knowledge sharing, ethical leadership, and lifelong learning guided by moral and spiritual values.

The session concluded with a collective prayer for steadfastness and sincerity in fulfilling the sacred duty of teaching. Participants left with renewed motivation to serve as murabbis — educators who teach not only with the mind but also with the heart.

“True education happens when knowledge transforms into wisdom, and wisdom blossoms into good character,” Madam Noor Jannah added. “That is the essence of being a murabbi.”
