Albukhary International University (AIU), through its Centre for Foundation and General Studies (CFGS), continues its commitment to nurturing intellectual curiosity and future-ready skills among students. On Friday, 24 October 2025, CFGS organized an insightful and inspiring workshop titled “Thinking Critically in the Age of AI” as part of the ongoing CFGS Foundation Learning Series.
Held at Lecture Theatre 6, the session attracted a diverse group of Foundation students eager to deepen their understanding of how artificial intelligence is reshaping the way individuals think, learn, and make decisions.
A Session Led by Vision and Expertise
The workshop was led by Mdm. Alia Hanim Zainal Abidin, Director of CFGS, whose expertise in education and learning development provided students with rich perspectives on the evolving intersection between human cognition and machine intelligence.
Throughout the session, Mdm. Alia guided students through thought-provoking discussions on:
- How AI technologies influence daily decision-making
- The importance of questioning assumptions
- Evaluating the credibility of digital information
- Strengthening reasoning skills in an era of automation
Her message was clear: as AI grows more powerful, the need for strong, independent human thinking becomes more essential than ever.

Encouraging Active Engagement and Critical Reflection
Students actively participated in group discussions, case studies, and Q&A segments focused on how AI impacts various spheres of life—including education, communication, creativity, and future career landscapes. Many students reflected on the need to balance technological convenience with mindful thinking and responsible use of digital tools.
The workshop encouraged learners to think beyond surface-level information and to engage deeply with ideas, arguments, and evidence—skills crucial for academic success and lifelong learning.
Part of the FLG113 Thinking Skills Course
This session forms an integral component of the FLG113 Thinking Skills course, taught by Ms. Farah Nadiah Abdul Kudus, which aims to equip students with essential cognitive tools such as analytical reasoning, problem-solving strategies, and evaluative judgment.
By incorporating real-world themes like artificial intelligence, the course ensures that students develop skills that are both academically valuable and highly relevant to the current digital landscape.
Empowering Future Leaders in a Digital Era
The workshop embodies AIU’s dedication to developing well-rounded, thoughtful, and responsible individuals. As emerging technologies continue to reshape the world, AIU strives to prepare students not just to adapt—but to lead.
Congratulations to all participating students for taking an active step toward strengthening their critical thinking abilities. Special appreciation goes to Mdm. Alia Hanim Zainal Abidin for delivering such an engaging and impactful session.
Through initiatives like this, AIU reaffirms its mission to empower young minds, inspiring them to think boldly and critically in an AI-driven future.
