Share

The School of Business and Social Sciences (SBSS), in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Academic Excellence (CDAE) at Albukhary International University (AIU), successfully organised a Subject Matter Expert Lecture titled “Global Perspectives and Emerging Trends in Islamic Finance: Insights from Industry Practice and Policy” on 31 October 2025.

The session featured Dr. Hurriyah El Islamy, Executive Board Member of Badan Pengelola Keuangan Haji (BPKH), Indonesia, and Adjunct Professor at AIU. With her extensive industry experience, Dr. Hurriyah delivered deep and practical insights into the evolving global Islamic finance sector. She highlighted crucial themes such as:

  • Shariah governance and regulatory frameworks
  • The rising importance of sustainability and ethical finance
  • The impact of digital transformation and fintech solutions
  • Opportunities and challenges in the global Islamic finance ecosystem

Her session provided students with a comprehensive understanding of how Islamic finance continues to adapt to modern economic needs while upholding its core values.

The lecture drew full attendance from Bachelor of Finance (Islamic Finance) students, along with participants from other SBSS programmes and faculty members. A dynamic Q&A session allowed students to engage directly with the speaker, bridging academic concepts with real-world practices and policy considerations.

This enriching session strengthened students’ appreciation of Islamic finance as a tool for ethical and inclusive economic growth. It also encouraged them to reflect on their future roles within the industry—whether in policy-making, financial management, or Shariah-compliant innovation.

Through impactful initiatives like this, AIU—together with SBSS and CDAE—continues to equip students with meaningful industry exposure and expert guidance, nurturing future-ready leaders in the field of Islamic finance.
